Blue Jays' Danny Jansen breaks up Tyler Alexander's perfect game in the 7th

Rays' left-hander was one out away from history before Jansen's single

Alexander is one of the Tigers' most prolific pitchers

TORONTO -- Danny Jansen broke up Tyler Alexander's perfect game with a one-out single in the seventh inning, sending the Rogers Centre crowd into a frenzy.

Alexander, who was making his first start of the season for the Tampa Bay Rays, had retired the first 18 batters he faced. He struck out seven and walked none.

But Jansen, who was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the game, lined a 1-2 sinker into center field to end Alexander's bid for history.

Alexander was visibly disappointed after the hit, but he remained in the game. He finished the inning by getting George Springer to ground out and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to fly out.

The Rays bullpen then took over and allowed just one more hit over the final two innings to secure the 1-0 victory.

It was a tough loss for Alexander, but he can take solace in the fact that he has been one of the Tigers' most prolific pitchers this season.

In four starts, Alexander has allowed just two earned runs in 23 innings pitched. He has struck out 26 batters and walked just three.

The Tigers are 3-1 in Alexander's starts, and they will need him to continue to pitch well if they want to make a run at the playoffs.
