Atlanta Braves Pitcher Struggles In First Outing

Bryce Elder's Spring Training Debut Falls Short of Expectations

Atlanta Braves Pitcher Struggles in First Outing

Elder Gives Up Five Runs in Three Innings

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Bryce Elder struggled in his Spring Training debut on Monday, giving up five runs on six hits in three innings of work against the Baltimore Orioles. Elder walked two batters and struck out three, but he also hit a batter and threw two wild pitches. The outing was not what Elder or the Braves had hoped for, as the 24-year-old right-hander is expected to be a key part of the team's rotation this season. Elder was one of the Braves' top pitching prospects last year, and he made his MLB debut in September, going 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA in four starts. The Braves will hope that Elder's rough outing was just a blip on the radar, and that he will be able to bounce back in his next start. The Braves are scheduled to face the New York Yankees on Thursday in their next Spring Training game.
