Fruit Warning As Pesticides Left Behind After Common Kitchen Prep

WEB Fruit Warning As Pesticides Left Behind After Common Kitchen Prep

Pesticide contamination on fresh produce is more than just skin deep

While many of us wash our fruit and veg to remove these chemical contaminants, a new study has found that pesticide contamination on fresh produce is more than just skin deep.

Toxins known as forever chemicals have been found in common fruits, vegetables, and spices in the UK

The study, published in the journal Food Control, found that several types of fruits and vegetables generally considered to be healthy can contain levels of pesticide residues potentially unsafe for consumption.

The researchers tested 46 samples of fresh produce from UK supermarkets, including apples, pears, strawberries, tomatoes, and potatoes.

They found that all of the samples contained at least one type of pesticide residue, and some samples contained multiple residues.

The most common pesticides found were chlorpyrifos, cypermethrin, and deltamethrin.

These pesticides are known to be harmful to human health, even at low levels of exposure.

In a study published in Food Control, researchers washed vegetables for 20 minutes in a vinegar solution, a saltwater solution, or plain water to remove pesticide residues.

They found that the vinegar solution was the most effective at removing pesticide residues, followed by the saltwater solution.

Plain water was not effective at removing pesticide residues.

The researchers recommend washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly in a vinegar or saltwater solution before eating them.
